We are fans of Silent Hill that became truly disappointed with the HD Collection. I created this blog with the purpose of having all the complaints in one single place.

Blocks of fog

In this video I tried to capture the blocky fog that I am experiencing. I think it’s quite obvious.

… Haven’t seen bigger blocks since N64.

And I have to say too, that I am keen on playing with the new voice acting but I still have problems of screen going black at random, even during fights.

Fog gone… pixels??

As I said here earlier, I am playing the supossedly improved EU version of the game.

I have not taken pics or video of this, will do so tomorrow. But I will just comment about it here to see if anyone’s seen this.

It’s about the fog. Two things.

The fog that “comes to you”, you know what I mean. Oftentimes it’s terribly awful to the point that it looks like blocks of white pixels coming up to you. Blocks.

Now the other thing that concerns me about the fog is the wall o’ fog that we all know. Because it’s so THICK far away, when you get closer to a place in the street and the camera doesn’t follow you, you could even end up missing your character (may it be James or Maria in her sub scenery), because it’s just… so effing thick. Which is really troublesome overall if you’re surround by monsters and you’re trying to find an open door to scape but since you can’t possible see the door, you’re, well, fucked.

Review on Silent Hill Historical Society

Source http://shshatteredmemories.com/blog/2012/03/25/hd-collection/

This page has a more in-depth info of SH2 glitches found in the HD collection.

As a kind of summary, I am going to just mention them (but I encourage reading the full article):

  • Roads and city in general seems to have been cleaned up (this problem has been corrected to a point in the European release if I am right)
  • The radio and monsters produce sounds that have been remade, too. It’s a confusing kind of noise, really ugly at that, and often monsters make a huge noise while walking (I am not even talking about the mannequins)
  • The new dub is good but James’ panting after running sounds robotic and poor
  • Wall of fog. This is something seriously annoying, that again, has been corrected in the European release TO A POINT. If you walk, there’s no wall effect, but when you run… there is. And it’s awful because you can’t see absolutely nothing from a certain point on.
  • Several audio problems. Audio seems to be looping from a melody to the next one not very smoothly. Also, some audio effects have been eliminated. In my experience, they have eliminated the sound of PH’s great knife agaisnt the floor, when you’re in Blue Creek apartments going on the stairs after seeing him the first time. I remember it clearly on the PS2, it was seriously dramatic. But it doesn’t exist at all anymore.
  • Fog has also been cleaned up, now you see details you weren’t supposed to see before. What’s worse, in the cinematics, the fog is normal (the pre-renderized ones). It’s funny when you encounter Angela and they talk about how you can’t see anything with that thick fog, but the truth is that such thick fog doesn’t exist in game. The absence of fog is awfully evident in that scene of the lake.
